Perfect Love

What is your idea of love?

When we were young we visualized our life as an adult would be perfect.

Perfect husband.  Perfect little house. Perfect children. Perfect job.

We just knew we would grow up and our lives would be different than our parents. Knowing we would have everything in place so our little world would be perfect. Then bam! Reality hits and the perfect little house has a leaky roof.  Those perfect children throw tantrums. That perfect job leaves us feeling empty and drained. Our perfect husband? Well he leaves toothpaste in the sink, snores like a freight train and never sends flowers. You ask yourself what happened? For you had it all figured out, where did you go wrong?

Let me tell you sister it isn’t you or anything you did or did not do, it’s called life. No matter who you are, what your social status is or where you live in this world, you will have troubles.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world“. (John 16:33, NIV).

Yes life happens, houses deteriorate, children will be unruly, and husbands are human. It is however, how we react to these happenings that make the difference. When the house needs repair we can take pride in the fact that we were able to become homeowners. When the children are screaming and stomping, rejoice in the feeling of those precious arms reaching to you for comfort. When the husband doesn’t bring flowers, we celebrate something he does do for us.

I have to admit these are things that I have to remind myself of on a daily basis. It’s not so much of what is happening, as it is of what my attitude about these happenings are that make a difference. I know when I thank God for all of my circumstances and trust my troubles to Him it brings me to a closer walk with Him. It’s there that I find peace in my time of need.

None of us are perfect and God never promised us life would be easy and certainly not that it would be perfect. What He did promise us is that His love for us is perfect and by trusting in Him we can endure all of our troubles until the day He calls us home to be with Him. (Colossians 1:11-12, NIV)

So let us release those ideas of perfection and enjoy each day God has given us. Keep the faith dear sister, God is with you, He hears your cries and will give you the strength you need to endure all of life’s troubles.
