Predestined

My friend’s daughter and her husband went through several unsuccessful years trying to conceive a child. After much thought and prayer they decided to go through an adoption agency. During the application process they made the decision that it didn’t matter the sex, color or even the health of the child. Once chosen, they would accept their baby just as he was.

After lots of time, preparation, disappointments, and many more prayers, they received a call saying one of the mothers had chosen them to be the parents of her yet unborn child. This precious child had to do nothing to be welcomed into their heart and home as one of their own.

Isn’t the same true for our adoption into the kingdom of heaven? There is nothing we have done, are doing, or will do that can secure us a room in God’s house. We were predestined, chosen before the creation of the world to be his children, set apart from the rest of the world. That it was “in accordance with his pleasure and will” Not because of our characteristics, qualities or abilities but because he loves us and it pleases him to do so. (Ephesians 1:4-5)

But we are separated from him by sin, we needed a Savior to wash away that sin in order for us to get to the Father. God sent Jesus, his one and only begotten son to be that covering, the ultimate sacrifice, (John 3:16). Sent so that through our belief in Jesus, you and I could be adopted children of God the Father and have eternal life in our heavenly home.

Just as my friend’s unborn child had to do nothing to earn the love of his new family, we can never earn God’s love or our salvation. It is God’s grace through his son Jesus, our belief and faith though which it comes. As believers in Christ, we know that Jesus has prepared a room for us in heaven, (John 14:2), not because we earned it but because it pleases God. Our adoption, through the blood of Jesus, into God’s kingdom is secured and awaiting our arrival.
